Medtech Snapshot Podcast Episode #126 We're joined by Bill Carpou, CEO of Octane OC, a non-profit organization in Orange County, CA offering ink Bill's Insights: 👏 Octane OC & Experian are partnering to develop an AI Innovation hub in Orange County, CA 🎉 Part of this hub will include an educational component to help educate people on the various AI tools and how it can positively impact your business READ THE INTERVIEW Welcome back to another Mid-Tech Snapshot. With us today is Bill Carpou from Octane OC (Octane), and I'm really excited to talk through a variety of topics today, everything from Raising Capital to their Launchpad program, and even a brand new AI hub that's in development here in Orange County. So stay tuned. All right, Bill, so, you know, I recently heard in the news, and you and I had had a short discussion on it, that there's a big announcement between Octane as well as Experian as it relates to a development that's going to be starting up here in Orange County as it relates to an AI hub. So I'd love for you to give us some insight, maybe tease out what this big picture idea is going to be. And perhaps even more, what's the impact potentially to the medical device sector as a result? Yeah, so I mean, Experian has been a great partner of ours really since day one. Octane was formed in 2002, and Octane has been a great partner of, well, Experian has been a great partner of Octane, serving on our board and a variety of other different components. So about a year ago, both organizations, we met and we said, all right, how can we help, you know, maybe Experian accelerate fintech companies and work with them on an accelerator incubator type concept. And it didn't take more than one meeting for us to really come out and conclude. That was so fine tuned to one industry. And, you know, while they're there, I guess you could say that they're a fintech company. They're also one of the biggest data companies in the world. So where we really landed, and by the way, they've got access to data in just a variety of different health care industries. So with MedTech being so large here in Orange County, you know, as well as obviously big data and fintech, you know, we decided to go off and create this AI innovation hub and take it, you know, notch this thing up a level. So, you know, it's coming together. We have a strategic plan that we will begin executing on. At some point, there will be some physical space. But right now, what we're looking at are two things, primarily, and it'll evolve as it's ongoing. And we're welcoming the community to be a part of this. This is not going to be an octane experience only type of a collaboration. We want to invite others in on this. But the two things will be through our launchpad accelerator and our ability to accelerate companies, we're going to look to create and build more AI companies. And I don't mean AI companies that are using or companies that are using AI. I mean, everybody is at this point, but really companies that are creating and building AI tools that create the efficiency, the revenue growth, the performance enhancement that companies should ultimately be looking at. So that's one. The second is really an educational aspect. And I think we both believe that this is really fundamentally just as important as building more companies that are creating AI tools. And what I mean by that is most companies, whether you're big or an SMB, while you may say you've got an AI strategy, I'm not sure anybody really believes that they do. And even if they do, it's so early in the formation that we think we could provide a format for companies to share what their AI strategies are and build off of each other. So that's one component. The other is just really educating the community and individual employees on how best to use AI. So there will end up being an educational element to this, that people could sign up for courses either in person or virtual that enable them to understand the tools that are out there. I mean, because let's face it, everybody uses chat GPT or some form of that at this point. And that's not really using AI. Okay, it's an entry into the utilization of AI. So we want to get to the next level and really educate and teach people what the tools are that are out there and how they could impact their business, growing top line revenue, growing profitability, retaining customers and retaining employees. So there'll be a lot more to come on this. As I said, it'll be an evolution over the next year to 18 months. But we intend with our partnership and experience of really providing a place and a spot that can center AI innovation for Southern California right here in Orange County, CA.
