In this conversation, Kevin Stewart, CTO of Revalve Solutions, reflects on an early experience that completely shifted how he viewed Medtech and ultimately changed the direction of his career.

Like many engineers early on, Kevin started in a focused technical role. He describes himself as “the R&D delivery system guy,” working on handles and foundational device design work. But then an opportunity came up to step into the clinic and support an early-stage aortic valve replacement program.

He said yes.

That one decision exposed him to an entirely different side of the industry. Instead of only thinking about individual components, he started seeing the full therapy ecosystem. He was interacting with physicians, helping with training, learning imaging workflows, and understanding the clinical realities behind the technology being developed.

And that perspective stayed with him.

What makes the conversation relatable is that Kevin doesn’t frame the experience as some perfectly planned career strategy. In fact, he openly admits it wasn’t. It was simply an opportunity that showed up early in his career that he decided to take.

That idea becomes one of the biggest takeaways from the episode.
